Performances – May 2016

GAIP ‘gather’

GAIP in conjunction with TESTING GROUNDS presents gather  a 24 hour performance event on May 14/15, 2016 at Testing Grounds, 1 – 23 City Road, Southbank, Saturday 6:00 pm. until Sunday 6:00 pm.

From the GAIP website:

gather will function, in part, as a closing ceremony, marking the end of a chapter for Testing Grounds (which will undergo a major upgrade over winter).

There will be no programmed performances, instead, spontaneous, adhoc, on-the-spot collaborations, and an improvisational approach to performance of any material will be the predominant mode of relation, forming a constantly negotiated improvisational ecology.

Two performances in the next week

Two unique performances I’m involved in are coming up in the next week:

un·habited space

A durational work by Ren Walters & Carmen Chan

With guest artists: Clinton Green, Dur-é Dara, Juana Beltrán, Janette Hoe and Michael McNab

@ Conduit Arts 83 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy

4-5 Apr: 11am-11pm

6 Apr: 6am-6pm

Ren & Carmen say:

Over three days, we will create a conversational space within the walls of Conduit Arts through performance art. We will explore the common boundaries of public and private domains as artists, and attempt to articulate the shift of energy that is an integral part of the processes of our respective artistic practices.

We will interact with each other; with our hosts; with our guest artists; and with anyone who enters the space.

I will join them at 6am on Wednesday 8 April for a dawn performance at Conduit.

Entry by donation.

Do You See What I Hear?

Carmen Chan’s multi-disciplinary piece continues to reinvent itself with different scenarios and artists. On this occasion, I will join Carmen and Llara Goodall to perform on the footpath in Chapel Street, Prahran, as part of the Chapel Street Art

Town festival. If you’re in the area, we’ll be situated near the corner of High Street – wander by and have a chat with us about what you think it might mean to be a musical thinker…

1200–>0000 – Conduit Arts, 19 March 2016

Pelchems

In a farewell before the impending closure of Conduit Arts, Ren Walters, Clinton Green & Michael McNab occupy the space for 12 hours. We hope to provide the physical and temporal space for improvised ceremonial actitives, explorations of the limits of performance, and other unpredictable phenomena.

Ren, Michael and I feel we have discovered a new way of interacting performatively through some rural and outback excursions over the past few months. We’ve had affecting experiences together in the bush, on salt lakes, both during the searing heat of day and in the dark of night. We are hoping 1200–>0000 will be a way to bring these experiences to a new context.

THIS Ensemble Wimmera Tour videos

In late October/early November of 2015, THIS Ensemble toured the Wimmera region of North Western Victoria in a series of official and unofficial performances/actions.

Ren Walters has put together these videos of those times. They have the character of home movies in a way, but for me they convey something of the experience of that time, particularly our attempts to connect with the landscape, the place, and with each other.
